Samsung Health: export a workout as GPX
Samsung Health exports a GPS workout as GPX from the workout's menu: Exercise, View history, the workout, Export as GPX file. The file has the route and the times but not the heart rate. What syncs to Strava and what does not.
Samsung Health has a GPX export, and it is in the one place people do not look: the history, not the workout you just finished.
Where it is
Open Samsung Health → Exercise → View history → open the workout → the menu (three dots) → Export as GPX file. Save it or share it. Only workouts recorded with GPS — outdoor runs, rides, walks — have the option; a treadmill session has nothing to export.
A Galaxy Watch workout lands in Samsung Health on the phone, so this is also the export for the watch. The watch itself does not hand over files.
What the file has
The route and the timestamps. Not the heart rate: Samsung's GPX carries GPS points and times only, and the heart rate stays in the app. For a print that is the route, the distance, the time and the pace; the heart-rate row is empty. If the heart rate matters, a watch that writes FIT — or a run synced to Strava at the time — is the way to keep it.
Samsung Health and Strava
The sync between Samsung Health and Strava carries new GPS workouts forward from the day it is connected. Workouts recorded before that do not come across, and workouts without GPS do not sync at all. For the history, it is this export and a manual upload: upload a GPX to Strava.
If the option is missing
Samsung has moved and renamed the export between versions. If it is not in the workout's menu, update Samsung Health, and check that the workout has a map at all — no map, no GPX. Samsung Health's data download from its settings gives the account's data as files but is not a per-workout route export.
Then what
Any GPX, FIT or TCX opens in the viewer to check it, uploads to Strava (how), and goes into the editor to become a print of the route with the numbers from the file. The other watches and apps are in the device guides.
Questions people actually ask
- How do I export a GPX from Samsung Health?
- In Samsung Health: Exercise, View history, open the workout, the menu, Export as GPX file. Only workouts recorded with GPS have the option.
- Does the Galaxy Watch export GPX?
- Through Samsung Health, yes: the watch's workouts land in Samsung Health on the phone, and the GPX export is there. The watch itself does not write files you can reach.
- Can I sync past Samsung Health workouts to Strava?
- Not through the sync — it carries new GPS workouts forward from when it is connected, and non-GPS workouts not at all. Past workouts go by file: export the GPX and upload it on strava.com.
- Why is there no heart rate in my Samsung Health GPX?
- Because Samsung's GPX carries the GPS points and timestamps only. Heart rate stays in Samsung Health. For a print that is the route and the time; the heart rate row will be empty.
