Frames: which fits a 50×70 poster, and the one we sell

Every print we sell is a standard European frame size on purpose: 30×40, 50×70 and 70×100 cm. That makes the frame a twenty-minute errand rather than a commission — or a tick box at checkout.

The framed print we sell

The framed route print is the same sheet in a solid wood frame behind acrylic glazing, ready to hang, from 799 kr. Four finishes: white, black, wood and dark wood. The frame has the paper's outer dimensions, so a framed 50×70 is 50×70 on the wall; its lip covers about 12 mm at the edge, which the layout leaves empty. It ships flat in a box rather than rolled. Both papers are offered framed; Paper says which to pick.

Buying a frame yourself

A loose print fits any frame sold as 30×40, 50×70 or 70×100 cm. 30×40 and 50×70 are stocked by every flat-pack and high-street retailer; 70×100 is at frame shops and the larger retailers. Buy by centimetres: a frame sold as A2 does not fit a 50×70 (A2 is 42×59.4 cm), and A1 does not fit a 70×100. Sizes has the comparison.

Acrylic or glass

Glass is fine in most rooms with a matte print, and cheaper. Acrylic is lighter and safer at 70×100, where a sheet of glass is heavy and a hazard on a wall; it scratches if cleaned carelessly, so dust it, do not rub it. Anti-reflective glazing is worth the money only where there is a window opposite — the matte paper already avoids most of the reflection a gloss print would have. Our framed print uses acrylic.

A mount, or not

Usually not. The layout puts a wide margin around the drawing already, and a mount adds a second border around the first — two whites at slightly different tones, which reads as a mistake. The exception is a deep box frame, where the mount holds the print off the glazing. If you do use one, make it wide, 6 cm or more, and the same white as the paper. Frame colour

The print is two colours on a plain field with one accent, and the frame should not be a second one. Black defines the edge and suits the dark colourways, Night and Ember. Natural wood is warmer and suits Natural and Signature. White works on a coloured wall and disappears on a white one. Brass, gold and anything glossy compete with the line.

Hanging

No. A2 is 42×59.4 cm. An A2 sheet fits inside a 50×70 frame with a mount; a 50×70 print does not fit an A2 frame.
