MapMyRun: export a workout as TCX, or a route as GPX
On MapMyRun a workout downloads as TCX from its page on the website; a route downloads as GPX or KML from My Routes. The bulk CSV export has the history but no routes. Where each button is, from MapMyFitness's own help.
MapMyRun (and MapMyRide, MapMyWalk — the same MapMyFitness service) exports a workout as TCX and a route as GPX. The buttons are on the website; the app does not have them.
A workout
Sign in at mapmyrun.com, open the workout — from the calendar or your workout list — and on its summary page there is a TCX button; the three-dot menu on the activity has a download option as well. The file lands in Downloads. MapMyFitness's help page *Export Your Workout Data* is the source for this.
The TCX carries the route, time, heart rate if recorded, and the totals. Strava, Garmin Connect, the viewer and the editor all read it; TCX to GPX converts it if a tool insists. What a TCX file is.
A route
A planned route is a different object: My Routes, open the route, Download, choose GPX or KML. It has no times, because nobody has run it yet — track vs route.
The whole history
`mapmyfitness.com/workout/export/csv` gives a CSV of every workout with its totals. It is the summary, not the recordings: no routes, no per-second data. For the routes it is one TCX per workout, which for a long history is an afternoon. Strava's help has a page on moving a MapMyRun history to Strava, and it describes the same thing: export, then upload in batches (how).
Then what
Any GPX, FIT or TCX opens in the viewer to check it, uploads to Strava (how), and goes into the editor to become a print of the route with the numbers from the file. The other watches and apps are in the device guides.
Questions people actually ask
- How do I export a workout from MapMyRun?
- On the website, open the workout; its summary page has a TCX button, or the three-dot menu has a download option. The file saves to Downloads. MapMyFitness's help page describes both.
- Can MapMyRun export GPX?
- Routes, yes: My Routes, open the route, Download, GPX or KML. Workouts come out as TCX, which every tool reads and which converts to GPX in the browser.
- How do I move my MapMyRun history to Strava?
- Export each workout as TCX from its page and upload them on strava.com — Strava's own help has a page on moving from MapMyRun. The bulk CSV is a summary and does not carry the routes.
- Does the MapMyRun bulk export include the routes?
- No. The CSV export at mapmyfitness.com/workout/export/csv lists the workouts with their totals but not the point-by-point data. Routes come one workout at a time as TCX.
