Strava to Komoot, Wahoo, Coros, Suunto, Polar and Ride with GPS

Some devices pull a starred Strava route directly. Everything else takes a GPX. One table of which is which, and the single export that covers all of them.

There are two kinds of destination. Some have a direct line to Strava and pull a starred route on their own. The rest take a file. Knowing which is which saves an evening.

Devices that sync starred routes

Strava has its own support articles for syncing routes to Garmin, COROS, Suunto and Polar devices, and the pattern is the same for all four: link the brand's account with Strava, star the route in Strava, and it appears in the brand's app the next time it syncs. No file, no cable. The Garmin version is the one most people use and has the troubleshooting steps.

Wahoo handles routes in its ELEMNT app. If the app offers a Strava route link, star the route and use it; if not, the file method below works.

Everything else takes a GPX

Komoot, Ride with GPS, Hammerhead, Bryton, mapping apps on a phone, and any planner you have not heard of yet: export the route from Strava and import it there.

  • On strava.com, open the route and use the download arrow — choose GPX.
  • In the destination, find its import. In Komoot it is under planning a tour; in Ride with GPS it is an upload on the routes page. Every planner has one; they may call it import, upload or "from file".

The route export guide has the Strava side in detail, including the phone workaround (the export lives on the website, not in the app).

Activities go the same way

If what you want to move is a ride you already did — not a plan — it is the same idea with a different button. Open the activity, more menu, Export GPX or Export Original, then import in the other service. The activity export guide covers it. Which of the three files to choose is in Export Original, GPX or TCX.

One file, all destinations

The GPX you export from Strava is the same file whichever direction it is going — to a bike computer, to a planner, or to the configurator to be drawn and printed. Export it once, keep it, and use it wherever it is needed. A file you have is better than a sync you have to trust.

Questions people actually ask

Can I send a Strava route to Komoot?
Not by sync. Export the route from Strava as GPX (the download arrow on the route page) and import it in Komoot as a planned tour. Komoot, like most planners, accepts a GPX upload.
Does Coros sync Strava routes?
Yes. Strava has a support article on syncing Strava routes to your COROS device: link the accounts, star the route, and it appears in the COROS app.
How do I get a Strava route onto a Wahoo ELEMNT?
Wahoo manages routes in its own ELEMNT app. If your version of the app offers a Strava link for routes, star the route in Strava and use that; otherwise export the GPX and import it in the ELEMNT app. Either way the route ends up on the computer.
Which file format should I export?
GPX. Every device and planner on this list reads it. Use TCX only if a specific tool asks for it.
